In 2009, Harpers Ferry National Historical Park along with partners in Jefferson County, West Virginia, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, Washington and Frederick County, Maryland and Loudoun County, Virginia, will host a variety of events, including commemorative, educational, musical, dramatic, and interpretative activities. The focus will be on John Brown's Raid, his life, the larger context of the slavery issue, and Brown's overall influence and his place in history.

Included among the many partners sharing in the sponsorship of this event are; The Harpers Ferry Historical Association, The Jefferson County NAACP, National parks Conservation Association, the John Brown Heritage Association, the Kennedy Farm Foundation, Penn State University - Mont Alto Campus, West Virginia Division of Tourism, and Quad - State convention and visitor bureaus.

In conjunction with this commemoration, Harpers Ferry National Historical Park is searching for descendents of those associated with the John Brown Raid to participate in this important celebration. If you or anyone you know are descendents of participants in the John Brown Raid such as raiders, Secret Six members and other supporters, local townspeople, militia units, U.S. marines, political figures, etc., please contact:
