Description: Programs and demonstrations focusing on U.S. Marine participation in John Brown’s Raid. A wreath laying ceremony by the United States Marine Corps Historical Company will be held at the grave of Private Luke Quinn in St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery

October 17, 2008 – “Frederick Reacts”

Description: The city will recreate the confusion and alarm when news of John Brown’s Raid reached Frederick. Living historians will gather at the downtown fire companies to ring the alarm bells and relate the arrival of the first news of the raid. A dedication ceremony for a Civil War Trails Marker will take place the same morning near the old train station and then a delegation of fire and city officials will leave to take part in the events at Harpers Ferry.
