John Brown's Body - Play Opens Sep. 24th

‘JOHN BROWN’S BODY’ COMMEMORATES 150TH ANNIVERSARY OF HARPERS FERRY RAID, USHERS IN CIVIL WAR SESQUICENTENNIAL

Harpers Ferry, WV —One hundred and fifty years after leading the ill-fated raid on the U.S. arsenal at Harpers Ferry—which helped fan the flames that led to the Civil War--abolitionist John Brown is back in the limelight, this time on stage as one of the characters in the upcoming production of John Brown’s Body.

The two-act play, adapted from the epic poem by Stephen Vincent Benet, takes the audience back to the time of the Civil War and allows us to experience the lives of a handful of remarkable people who faced the challenge of a divided nation and had the courage to move forward.

From a slave ship captain to Abraham Lincoln; from a young Union soldier to Robert E. Lee; from a slave to John Brown, the play challenges audiences of today to continue their legacy and fulfill the promise of our nation.

Produced by the Harpers Ferry Historic Town Foundation with a cast of local actors, musicians, and current and former students from Shepherd University, John Brown’s Body performances will take place at the Camp Hill-Wesley United Methodist Church, 601 W. Washington Street in Harpers Ferry, WV on the following dates: Sept. 24, 25 and 26 at 8 p.m.; Oct. 1, 2 and 3 at 8 p.m.; Oct. 4 matinee at 3 p.m.; Oct. 15 and 17 at 8 p.m.; Oct. 18 matinee at 3 p.m.; and Oct. 29, 30 and 31 at 8 p.m.
